The Italian Textile Association is not optimistic about the future direction of the industry
According to estimates from the Italian Textile and Fashion Industry Federation, in 2009, the Italian textile and apparel industry achieved sales revenue of approximately 45 billion euros, a decrease of 16% over the previous year; employment of 482,000 people, a decrease of 26,000; It was 22.2 billion euros, down 20%; imports were 15.8 billion euros, down 11%; trade surplus was 6.4 billion euros, down 37%.
According to data from the Italian Foreign Trade Commission, in 2009, the Italian textile and apparel industry exported 368 million euros to China, down 5.8% year-on-year, accounting for 1.65% of the total exports of the Italian textile and apparel industry; imports from China were 4.187 billion euros. , a year-on-year decline of 3%, accounting for 26.3% of the total imports of Italian textile and apparel products, still ranked first in the country of import; the trade deficit with China was 3.819 billion euros, down 2.7%.
Since the beginning of this year, as the demand in the European and American markets has picked up, the operational situation of the Italian textile and apparel industry has improved. According to the results of a sample survey conducted by the Italian Textile and Fashion Industry Federation, in the first quarter, the output value of the textile and garment industry remained basically stable, down 0.2% from the same period of last year, of which: the textile industry increased by 4.7% and the apparel industry decreased by 3.5%; It fell by 3.5%; orders increased by 3.2%.
However, the association is not optimistic about the future trend of the industry. It believes that due to the instability of the global economic growth, high raw material prices, speculation in the euro exchange rate, and the credit crunch have not been fundamentally improved, the textile and apparel industry is recovering. It will be very slow and it will take time to return to pre-crisis levels.
